Russia declares a new victory on the Ukrainian front. What a victory Putin’s forces are boasting

Russia said on Saturday it had captured the settlement of Shumi near the town of Doretsk in eastern Ukraine, which has been targeted by escalating Russian attacks since earlier this month.

“As a result of successfully conducted operations, units of the Center Force group liberated the Shumi settlement in the Donetsk People’s Republic, improved the tactical situation and defeated the formations of the 41st mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 109th Regional Defense. In the Leninskoie, Sokol, Novgorodskoi and Novoselovka Pervaia residential areas in the Donetsk People’s Republic Legion, Ministry of Defense said in its daily statement.

Şumî, a small village, is located near Toreţk, an important town on this front. Its victory would give the Russian army access to Kostiantynivka and then to Kramatorsk, AFP reported, citing Agerpres.

Brutal attack by Ukrainians in Russia

On Saturday, five people, including two children, died as a result of a Ukrainian drone strike on their home in the Russian region of Kursk, bordering Ukraine, the region’s governor, Alexei Smirnov, said on Saturday. EFE and Reuters, citing TASS.

“Two other members of the same family are hospitalized in critical condition,” the governor wrote in a telegram.

The attack took place in the village of Gorodiss in the Rilsky district of the Kursk region.

Kursk, along with the neighboring Belgorod region, have been hit hard by Ukrainian attacks launched from across the border.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Saturday that six drones launched overnight by Ukrainian forces were shot down in Belgorod, Tver, Bryansk and Crimea.
