Inter Miami CF Today I announced the signing of legendary Spanish midfielder Sergio Busquets until the 2025 MLS season. The one-time World Cup champion, nine-time LaLiga winner and former FC Barcelona captain, considered one of the greatest midfielders of all time, is expected to join the squad in the coming days.

Busquets’ resume features several key team accomplishments, including helping lead Spain to the 2010 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2012 titles. At club level, he has won the league nine times, most recently winning the 2022-23 title, three FIFA Club World Cups, and a League European champions three times, and the King’s Cup seven times.
The midfielder has also received a number of individual honors throughout his career. Notably, Busquets has been named to the LaLiga Team of the Season and the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season once each, and the UEFA Euro Team of the Tournament once. He was also named LaLiga Breakout Player in 2009 and UEFA Nations League Player of the Tournament in 2021.
Before joining Inter Miami, Busquets spent his entire career at FC Barcelona, coming through the famous academy La Masia And he became a club legend. Sabadell, Spain, made 721 appearances for Barcelona over 15 seasons, the third most in the club’s history. In that time, he has scored 19 goals and recorded 40 assists. Notably, Busquets was managed by Inter Miami soccer coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino in the 2013-2014 season, and won the 2013 Supercopa de España together.
Busquets also compiled a historic career with the Spain national team, helping to guide the country into its most successful era. He started every match in the 2010 World Cup for the team and played every minute of their UEFA Euro 2012 winning campaign. In total, he made 143 appearances for Spain, the third most in the country’s history.
Busquets will first be available for selection for Inter Miami CF when they take on LIGA MX side Cruz Azul in their opener on July 21. League Cup, a new North American soccer tournament in which MLS and LIGA MX will suspend their respective league seasons from July 21 to August 19 to determine the three clubs that will qualify for the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup. All 47 top division clubs in Canada, Mexico and the United States will compete in the Official CONCACAF World Cup-style tournament.
