Former President Barack Obama weighed in on President Joe Biden’s performance in the debate with Donald Trump. In the first re-election debate, Obama said his performance was a “footprint.”
“Bad debate nights still happen. Trust me, I know,” said Barack Obama In a post on X.
“But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought all his life for the common man and someone who only cares about himself. Between someone who tells the truth, someone who knows right from wrong and tells it straight to the American people – and someone who shamelessly lies for his own benefit. Last night didn’t change that, and that’s why the stakes are so high in November,” Obama concluded, including a link to Biden’s campaign website.
The former president described his first debate during his re-election campaign as a “footstep.” Flattened, coiled and passive, Obama limped backstage in Denver in 2012 before aides reluctantly faced reporters in the newsroom. But Obama won re-election.
CNN: The rift between those around Biden and the wider democratic world is growing
President Joe Biden’s campaign staff insisted on Friday that he would not drop out of the 2024 race, but divisions between those close to the president and the wider world of Democrats hoping for a last-minute change grew after Biden’s disastrous performance. On the debate, the CNN website writes in an analysis.
Biden acknowledged the lackluster performance during a highly animated speech in North Carolina on Friday: “I know I’m not a young man. I don’t walk as easily as I used to. I don’t talk as easily as I used to. I don’t debate as I used to, but I know what I know: how to tell the truth.” I know that. I know how to do this job, I know how to fix things. I know what millions of Americans know: when you get knocked down, you get back up.”
Biden advisers called Democratic members of Congress, donors and other key supporters Friday morning, hoping to quell widespread panic about Thursday night’s CNN debate with former President Donald Trump.
