Roseville practice burn razed Feist home

The Roseville Fire Department held a live burn training exercise on April 27 at 2325 Dale Street in Roseville, the old Feist home. The fire fighters had two garages and the home to practice fire fighting techniques on and also trained new firefighters in this event. The Feist home and the Roseville Fire Station on Dale Street are a part of the redevelopment happening on that site, just north of Hwy. 36 and Dale Street. (photos by Linda E. Andersen/Review)

When Roseville crews set fire to a home at 2325 Dale St. N., just south of the current Dale Street fire station, they got modern-day practice on a somewhat historic site.

Historically late ice-outs on some metro lakes

Lake Phalen on Saturday, April 20. The latest recorded ice-out date on the lake was April 21 until this year.

Last year was the earliest statewide ice-out for Minnesota lakes on record. On April 10, 2012 the last lake, Greenwood Lake in Cook County near the Ontario border, was declared ice-free. Most lakes around the Twin Cities were free of ice by mid March when the mercury spiked to a record 80 degrees on St. Patrick’s Day.
This year many anglers traveling to northern Minnesota lakes for the May 11 fishing opener may worry that they will have to pull out the ice auger to reach the abundant walleye, northern pike and sauger.
