Two Lillie staffers win statewide awards

Growing up on his family’s farm, Bill Bruentrup milked cows twice a day. Even on Christmas.
“On Christmas Eve, we’d milk a little bit earlier than we normally did so we could come in, clean up, eat dinner, and then we would open our presents,” the 72-year-old said. “I remember getting ready for Christmas, because we tried to get as many things done as we could.

Roseville School Board, Little Canada City Council approve 2014 property tax levies

The 2014 property tax levies for School District 623 and the city of Little Canada were approved last week.
The Roseville School Board approved the school district’s 2014 property tax levy at its Tuesday, Dec. 17 meeting.
District business manager Shari Thompson presented information on the levy and current budget year at the truth in taxation hearing prior to the regular board meeting.

Minnesota models bring book cover to life

The book cover of Julie Klassen’s latest novel “The Dancing Master” seemed to come alive in front of hundreds of fans earlier this month.
During her Dec. 12 book launch at Barnes & Noble in HarMar Mall, the Shoreview author introduced readers to Jen Halvorson and Brandon Kaschmitter, who appear as “Alec” and “Julia,” the main characters in Klassen’s 7th book.

Cities approve 2014 budgets, property tax levies

The 2014 budgets for the cities of Roseville, Falcon Heights and Lauderdale have been approved by each city’s respective city council.
The Roseville City Council approved the city’s final 2014 budget and property tax levy at the Dec. 9 city council meeting. The total budget was set at just under $50.7 million, of which about $23.1 million is for tax-supported programs and $27.6 is for non-tax supported programs -- increases of about $1.3 million and $4 million respectively.
