Frooozen plunge - photos

Chillin' for cash

The Oakdale Police Department’s team “Frooozen Oooaks” topped their goal with $2,735 raised for the Polar Plunge presented by Law Enforcement for Special Olympics Minnesota. Donning super hero t-shirts they took the plunge at White Bear Lake Ramsey Beach Jan. 31. Over $300,000 was raised by 1,600 participants for an amazing cause. (Review photos by Linda Baumeister)

Chilled bacon - photos

“Bacon Bits,” the Maplewood Police Department’s team, made their grand entrance on White Bear Lake for the Polar Plunge Jan. 31. The team came in above their goal, raising $4,880 for the Polar Plunge presented by Law Enforcement for Special Olympics Minnesota. At the event, 1,600 participants raised $300,000. Little Canada ice fishing contest - photos

The Little Canada Recreation Association held its fourth annual ice fishing contest on Lake Gervais Jan. 31. There was an adult division and a youth division for those ages 13 and younger. Sleigh bells ring in St. Anthony - photos

Holiday tree lights up Mendota Heights - photos

Lights winding around a large conifer and strung on trees throughout Mendota Plaza are now brightening up Mendota Heights for the holiday season.  Mendota Heights celebrated the season Dec. 6 near the corner of Highway 110 and Dodd Road with hayrides, reindeer and the lighting of the tree in the central square area.  The Convent of the Visitation Choir sang holiday songs during the holiday event. Stu Bickel pays surprise visit to Inver Grove Heights hockey team

Minnesota Wild player Stu Bickel surprised the 11-year-old goalie and the rest of the Inver Grove Heights Spartans U10A girls hockey team by practicing alongside them for more than an hour, posing for photos and signing autographs at the Veterans Memorial Community Center ice rink. photos by Kaitlyn Roby/Review

Local crafts

The 11th annual Holiday Craft Fair took place at Roseville City Hall this past weekend and featured many local artists and crafters. Proceeds from the vendor fees benefitted the Harriet Alexander Nature Center. Holiday shoppers enjoyed searching for that perfect hand-made gift for everyone on their list Dec. 6 and 7.

Little Canada Veterans Memorial Park Dedication Ceremony
Despite the cold weather and fresh snow, the dedication ceremony for the Little Canada Veterans Memorial was held at the site of the memorial on Little Canada Road near Round Lake on Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11. Veterans Memorial Committee Chair Rocky Waite, who has been responsible for overseeing the project, spoke at the ceremony, as well as a representative of U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum's office. Many other local veterans and officials were in attendance.
The Veterans Memorial in Little Canada features three flag poles, benches along a nearby path and dedicated paver bricks.
