Healthy Kids Day set at YMCA April 15

Kids and families from across the northeast metro area will celebrate “Healthy Kids Day” Saturday, April 15 by participating in an action-filled morning of fun and exercise at the Northeast YMCA location. More than 1,300 YMCAs nationwide participate in the YMCA Healthy Kids Day.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the entire community is welcome to participate, weather permitting, in an outdoor obstacle course, crafts, and coloring session at no cost. Every participant will receive a Healthy Kids Day Coloring Book for free, and many will have the chance to win extra prizes too.

“With 9 million U.S. children overweight - more than double the percentage in 1980 - increasing the levels of physical activity in the lives of our children is a critical component of this country’s efforts to fight childhood obesity,” said Shane Hoefer, senior program director at the Northeast Family YMCA. “Statistics say that the obesity crisis is becoming an overwhelming problem nationwide, and even here at home in Minnesota.”

The Northeast YMCA location is 2100 Orchard Lane, White Bear Lake. Its Web address is www. ymcatwincities.org.
