Blood supply needs boost

Hurricane Katrina has disrupted blood collections in parts of the South. The Red Cross urges donors to give blood this month to help keep inventories at a safe level.

All donations are appreciated, but Type O blood, which is at less than a day’s supply, is especially needed.

Most people who are in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds and are at least 17 years of age are eligible to give blood every 56 days, or approximately six times a year. I.D. is required.

To help boost blood supplies, the Red Cross has scheduled the following bloodmobile:

• Sept. 22, 8 to 11, City of Oakdale, 1584 Hadley Ave. N.

For information on upcoming bloodmobiles in your community or to schedule a donation appointment, call the Red Cross at 291-4607 or (800) GIVE-LIFE. Information may also be found at the North Central Blood Services Web site
