Maplewood subscribes to solar gardens


Maplewood is one of 22 metro area cities that have subscribed to solar gardens in order to offset city government energy costs and to utilize clean energy. Maplewood already utilizes solar energy with solar panels like the ones on the roof of the Maplewood Community Center.

Maplewood’s local government has already shown their support for solar energy through the solar panels fixed atop the community center roof, mounted on the ground near City Hall and installed as the awning at the Maplewood Nature Center.

Boy Scouts build for their community


Jack Kuchenmeister installed a flagpole and small flower garden at Carol Mathey’s Center for Children and Families in Oakdale. He says his Eagle Scout project was a way to show respect for all military members. Jack is a former student at the daycare/preschool and has a sister serving in the Navy, so for him, the project was also personal.

New bus rapid transit route considered for Oakdale, Woodbury


The Gateway Gold Line BRT Policy Advisory Committee members reviewed new route options in Oakdale and Woodbury at their August 18 meeting. A decision on the preferred route is expected this fall after a robust community engagement process.

A potential new route for the proposed bus rapid transit Gateway Gold Line was revealed at an Aug. 18 meeting of the Gateway Corridor Commission and Policy Advisory Committee.

Pokémon Go, Pokémon return


When Shawn Kuehh, middle, and his friend Kyle Hance, left, visited Phalen Regional Park to play Pokémon Go, they did not expect to meet anyone new, but Bee Cheng, right, another Pokémon player, joined them at their Pokémon lure. As they sat together on the shady bank next to the lake, they learned that they all played for the red team and had all grown up playing the Gameboy and Gameboy Advance SP games in addition to the trading card game.
