A career suggestion that changed everything


On a warm afternoon a couple years ago, executive editor Mary Lee Hagert slipped out of the newsroom to enjoy the autumn bloom in front of the Lillie Suburban Newspapers building.

Girls high school basketball was a big deal in Iowa back in the ‘60s. 

There were girls teams only in small towns; the big towns and cities had no sports programs for girls.

Packers advance in Class 4A state tournament by defeating Rocori

South St. Paul’s making its first appearance in football championship game

East Metro Conference perennial powerhouse South St. Paul took a huge step forward Saturday, Nov. 7, when it played the Rocori Spartans in the Class 4A state football tournament.
The Packers (11-1) gained a 19-14 victory to advance into the championship game against the undefeated Becker Bulldogs Friday, Nov. 13, at TCF Bank Stadium on the University of Minnesota campus. It was the first time the Packers had made it to the state tournament football finals.
