Beacons fastpitch survives first three rounds

The Beacons were among the final four teams in last year’s Section 4AA playoffs. The fastpitch softball team has a chance to reach that spot again this season if they can pull off an upset on Tuesday.
Concordia began the week as one of six teams still vying for the section title, and a win over DeLaSalle on Tuesday would match last year’s playoff run.

Polars take the wind out of Zephyrs in softball

The cold, brisk northwest wind and cool temperatures of May 9 weren’t a hindrance to the “Senior Day” celebration prior to the Mahtomedi and North softball game.
The North bats did more to put a chill into the Mahtomedi Zephyrs than anything else that occurred at McKnight Field.

Huskies fastpitch trying to put all the pieces together

The St. Anthony Village High School fastpitch softball team started five seniors in the state tournament last June. With a number of new faces in the lineup this season, the Huskies are going through some growing pains.
St. Anthony reached the midway point of the regular season last week and enters this week with a record of 7-4. Not a bad first half, but head coach Lamar Brendemuehl is waiting for his squad to put all the pieces together at the same time.

Irondale softball team gains momentum

Despite not playing a game in more than a week, the Knights had a successful weekend. The Irondale girls softball team won an eight-team tournament to pick up some momentum heading into the final two weeks of the regular season.
When Irondale stepped on the field in Lakeville on Friday, it was playing for the first time since April 23. Rust wasn’t a factor as the Knights beat Visitation, Wayzata and Duluth Denfeld to win the Black bracket of the Lakeville North tournament.

Softball: North puts the ‘chill’ on Hill-Murray

Polars remain undefeated this spring
On a cold, wet, wind-whipped Wednesday, the Hill-Murray Pioneers traveled to North High for a softball game.
April 23 was a day better suited for the ducks and geese that occasionally flew across the sodden skies above the McKnight Field complex, than it was for a softball game between two undefeated powerhouses.

Senior battery leading the way for Beacons fastpitch

Courtney Larsen

After making a nice run in the section playoffs last year, the Concordia Academy fastpitch softball team faced a number of questions as this season approached. The Beacons graduated a bunch of seniors off last year’s squad so there were some holes.
As head coach, Gina Tupper began to assemble a roster, two positions seemed pretty well locked up and they are two of the more important spots on the field--pitcher and catcher. Seniors Courtney Larsen and Claire Heilman wasted little time showing the new players the way.

Roseville fastpitch team hitting its stride

During the past three seasons, when some asked Roseville Area High School fastpitch softball coach Julie Standering how her team was doing, she would say “They’re getting there.” Now in her fourth season at the helm, Standering has changed her answer.
