Applewood Pointe, Langton Lake

The entrance lobby’s fireplace hearth at Applewood Pointe, Langton Lake (APLL) in Roseville was laden with the co-op’s donations to the 15th annual USPS food shelf drive before the May 11 pick-up for the event.

“It was very gratifying to see the shopping carts in the lobby filling up with bags and boxes of food donations,” said Doug Jones, the USPS letter carrier who has delivered mail at APLL since its opening eight years ago. “I always collect more here than any place else on my route, but this year was the most ever.”

That could be due, in part, to resident Juliann Sikora, who kicked off the drive by offering free bingo cards to residents who showed up for bingo night with donations. “It seemed to snowball from there,” she said.

And it’s not just APLL residents who are generous. Jones reports that last year’s USPS Food Drive in the Twin Cities Metro Area was the most successful in the entire U.S., yielding more than a million pounds of food.
