West St. Paul YMCA finds temporary home in Inver Grove Heights

After accepting a purchase agreement with Hy-Vee for its current location, the YMCA in West St. Paul has announced plans for a temporary home.

The nonprofit is planning to make a short-term move to the Southridge Center located at 1426 E. Mendota Road in Inver Grove Heights late this year.

The Y will operate in its current location at 150 Thompson Ave. through October or early November.

Most current services are expected to be available at the temporary location, and the group said in a Facebook post it will be sharing additional information about amenities and services in the coming weeks.

Joan Schimml, senior director of communications and marketing, said April 29 the Y is in the process of getting the newly created space ready, with members’ needs in mind.

Deliberations about a permanent location are ongoing.

The move comes as Hy-Vee prepares to start work on its newest metro location. Last year, the West St. Paul City Council approved a development agreement with the grocer for a 68,400-square-foot store that will include a restaurant, gas station and liquor store.

Construction is anticipated to begin this fall as the YMCA moves out.
