NEWSBRIEF: Dakota County Library welcomes all customers during Fine Forgiveness Week

Dakota County Library will host Fine Forgiveness Week from Saturday, April 6 to Saturday, April 13 as a way to welcome customers back to the library. During Fine Forgiveness Week, customers can use their library card online or at any of the nine Dakota County Library locations and their overdue fines will be waived.

The library is hosting Fine Forgiveness Week to make sure all customers have access to the countless materials and resources the library offers and to give those with overdue fines an opportunity to reconnect with the library. An estimated 23,000 people are currently blocked from checking out library materials due to fines and fees.

“We know that for some customers, having fines on their library account can be a barrier to visiting their library,” said Dakota County Library Director Margaret Stone. “Fine Forgiveness Week gives them a chance to return to the library, and we look forward to welcoming them back.”

All fines and fees except for lost materials will be waived once during Fine Forgiveness Week. Customers with lost or damaged items should contact the library to resolve their situation. The regular fine policy will resume Sunday, April 14.

Fine Forgiveness Week coincides with National Library Week and the beginning of Dakota County Library’s 50th anniversary celebration. For more information, visit, search “fine forgiveness.”
