NEWSBRIEF: $15k in arts grants coming to area organizations

The Metropolitan Regional Arts Council announced on March 26 awards of $346,335 to projects and organizations across the Twin Cities.

They include awards to New Brighton, Mounds View and Roseville groups, according to a news release.

The Community Arts grant program utilizes a block grant system to ensure funds are distributed broadly in the seven counties of MRAC’s service area.

This grant program is made possible with funds from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund of the Legacy Amendment, the release said.

The awards include $5,000 to the city of New Brighton to fund a community mural as part of The Beautiful Project. The mural will be located on the west wall of the New Brighton Community Center and will be completed this summer.

Another $5,000 grant will be made to Mounds View Community Theater to fund the production of the musical “Man of La Mancha.” Performances will be in July and August at the Chippewa School in North Oaks.

Finally, the Roseville Parks and Recreation department will get $5,000 for “Live at the Rog,” a free summer performance series that highlights a different world region each week. Performances take place at the Roseville Central Park Frank Rog Amphitheater.
