NEWSBRIEF: Sen. Smith area students to U.S. service academies

U.S. Sen. Tina Smith (D-Minn.) announced Feb. 8 the nomination of several area students to U.S. service academies.

Bradley Alton of Mendota Heights was nominated for admission to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

If chosen for an appointment by the academy, Alton, the son of Dori and Tom Alton, would join the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy class of 2023 and would enter this summer.

Alton currently attends Henry Sibley High School, where he is the Distance Captain of the Track and Field team. Alton also serves as a volunteer during the Special Olympics and was a part of the Rotary Ethics Expansion Program.
Tina Smith (D-Minn.) nominated Wyatt Ebner of Inver Grove Heights for admission to the U.S. Naval Academy.

If chosen for an appointment by the academy, Ebner, the son of Douglas and Robyn Ebner, would join the U.S. Naval Academy class of 2023 and would enter this summer.

Ebner currently attends Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida, plays on the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Men’s Hockey Team, and served as an assistant golf instructor. He was also a member of the National Honor Society. 

Mihnea Frincu of South St. Paul was nominated for admission to the U.S. Air Force Academy.

If chosen for an appointment by the academy, Frincu, the son of Dan and Liliana Tau, would join the U.S. Air Force Academy class of 2023 and would enter this summer.

Frincu currently attends South St. Paul Secondary, participates in tennis, track and field, band and theatre, and has received a black belt in Taekwondo. He was also a member of the National Honor Society. 

Smith nominated Sean Creamer of West. St. Paul for admission to the U.S Naval Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
Creamer currently attends St. Thomas Academy where he plays football, baseball and intermural basketball. He is an Eagle Scout and serves as a volunteer for the Dakota County Food Shelf. Creamer is also a campus minister at St. Thomas Academy. 

If chosen for an appointment by the academy, Creamer, the son of Colleen and Bill Creamer, would join the U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy class of 2023 and would enter this summer.

 

 

Each year, Sen. Smith nominates qualified young Minnesotans to the U.S. Service Academies, including the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The individual service academies make the final admission decisions and begin notifying nominees of their status in February.
