Getting out of expired holds

Each week the staff at the Roseville Library answers more than 2,500 questions on every subject under the sun. Here is one of the most interesting ones they’ve gotten lately.


Q. I put some books on hold and then I wasn’t able to pick them up. So now I have blocks on my online library account that have been there for quite a while. Will they ever go away on their own accord? How can I get rid of them?



The blocks will normally stay on your account until they are resolved. In the case of overdue charges, overdue items or items being held, that means that they will go away when you pay your overdue charges, bring back your overdue books or pick up your requested items. In the case of expired holds or messages to you about some issue with your patron record, they won’t go away until you ask us to remove them. This is to ensure that you actually see the messages. Of course, once you do see them, you can ask a staff member to remove them at any time. Just speak to a staff person about them either when you’re in the library, or by phone or email.
