Was it Shoreview or Roseville?

Inquiring minds

Each week the staff at the Roseville Library answers more than 2,500 questions on every subject under the sun. Here is one of the most interesting ones they’ve gotten lately.

Q. Which came first — the Roseville Library or the Shoreview Library?

A. There has been a library at the corner of Hamline Avenue and County Road B in Roseville since the 1950s, when the library was located on the second floor of the Roseville City Hall building of the era. That building was torn down around 1964 and was replaced with a building containing the public library space, plus the library’s administration and Technical Services Department, as well as a large garage that housed the library’s bookmobile. As the price of fuel rose, the bookmobile was retired, and the site has been remodeled several times since then. The current Roseville Library building opened in 2010. The Shoreview Library was founded in 1992 in the Shoreview Commons area. It has also been reconstructed; the current building opened in January of 2017.
