One-year-old boy hit and killed by car at Maplewood home

Was thought to have been inside house

A 1-year-old boy was accidentally struck and killed by a vehicle driven by a family member in a Maplewood neighborhood the night of May 20.

Family members were shifting parking spaces at around 9:20 p.m. in the 1900 block of Prosperity Road, according to release from the Maplewood Police Department, when the child, Andrew Her, was hit. He was thought to be inside the house at the time.

Maplewood police officers, firefighters and paramedics responded to a call stating Her was not breathing, and transported him via ambulance to Regions Hospital where he was pronounced dead, the release said.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to conduct an autopsy.

Although the investigation is ongoing, the release said the driver who hit the child has been cooperative, and alcohol is not believe to be involved.

Said Cmdr. Dave Kvam, “This is a terrible tragedy affecting Andrew’s parents, family and all who knew him.”
