Senate District 43 Republican caucus

The Republican caucus will be held Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. with registration beginning at 6:30 p.m. The entire Senate District 43 will meet together at the south campus of White Bear High School, 3551 McKnight Road. District 43 includes Maplewood Precincts 1-9, White Bear Lake Precincts 3-5, Mahtomedi, Willernie, North St. Paul, Oakdale north of Tenth Street and Maplewood Precincts 10 and 11.


Smartphone basics and security

Mobile devices are a serious investment, as well as a storehouse of personal data and online activity. They’ve become an essential part of our lives, but also targets of hackers and thieves. You have options for providing better smartphone security. Learn which basic security settings are right for you and how to configure them. Topics include PINs and password managers, apps and backups, WiFi and VPNs, remote wipe, encryption and smartphone scams.  Whether you use an iPhone or Android, make sure your smartphone is safe. Presented by Twin Cities Media Alliance and funded by Metropolitan Library Service Agency. The class will be held at the Oakdale Public Library, 1010 Heron Ave. N., Saturday, Jan. 13, from 1 to 3 p.m.


Knitting class

Instructor Elizabeth Vindedahl leads this knitting group that is open to all ages and skill levels. This group meets from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the Oakdale Library, and some supplies are provided. The library is located at 1010 Heron Ave. N., Oakdale.

Oakdale open house

Oakdale residents are invited to attend a community open house on Thursday, Jan. 11, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Oakdale City Hall, 1584 Hadley Ave. N. The city is updating its comprehensive plan, which represents the community’s vision for how it wants to grow, change and renew itself. At the open house city staff will share information on the land use, transportation and parks and trails topic areas of the plan. Residents will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the draft goals and policies.
