Book Ends book group

Join the Book Ends for its monthly book discussion group that delves into the details of a good book. The group will meet Nov. 28 from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m., at the Wentworth Library, 199 Wentworth Ave. E. This month’s book is “The Children Act” by Ian McEwan.

 

Tis the Season with “Just Dorothy”

Come for holiday entertainment. Hear and see movie pictures and clips while Dorothy Fleming talks about movies, from “Miracle on 34th Street” to “A Christmas Carol” and more. Register by Wednesday, Nov. 29 for this event that will take place on Dec. 6 at 1:30 p.m. Cost is $7, which includes dessert. The ABCs and 1-2-3s of tending our treasures

This presentation takes an entertaining look at valuing your possessions. It will answer questions like: What determines value? How do you know what things are worth? How does the market influence value? What are the best avenues for selling treasures? Register by Wednesday, Nov. 29 for the event that will take place on Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. Cost for the session is $5, and it will take place at Thompson Park Activity Center, 1200 Stassen Lane, West St. Paul. Winter Bazaar

Dodge Nature Preschool’s annual Winter Bazaar will take place Nov. 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Dec. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Open to the public, there will be 12 to 15 vendors selling homemade crafts, bath and body products, kitchen items and more. While you shop, enter to win dozens of prizes. All proceeds from the bazaar go to support the preschool scholarship fund. This will take place at Dodge Nature Preschool Entrance 2, 1715 Charlton St., West St. Paul. 

 

WonderWorks

Explore topics in science, technology, engineering, and math through hands-on play, experimentation, and books. Registration is open for this session Nov. 30 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the South St. Paul Library, 106 Third Ave. N. It is open to kids ages 3 to 6. Call 651-554-3240 for more information.

 

Opera Storytelling

Hear stories read and sung by trained opera singers from the Minnesota Opera and complete an art project to go with the story. This is a Minnesota Legacy program sponsored by Minnesota’s Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund. Open to ages 3 to 6, it will take place from 11 a.m., to noon on Dec. 1 at the Inver Glen Library, 8098 Blaine Ave. E.

 

Make and Take Gingerbread houses

Decorate a gingerbread house to display during the holiday season.  Adults must accompany and assist younger children. This is open to kids ages 4 to 12 and will run from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Inver Glen Library, 8098 Blaine Ave. E. Registration is required. Call 651-554-6840 for more information. 

 

Talking Kiwi

Peter Garrettson is back Dec. 5 to share stories and photos of his most recent trip to New Zealand. This is part of Dodge Nature Center’s O.W.L.S program. Register by Dec. 1 by calling 651-455-4531 or visiting www.dodgenaturecenter.org. The program will run from 11 a.m. to noon, with lunch to follow. Cost for both program and lunch is $15, and $5 if you’re interested in just attending the program.

Meet with a certified application counselor to help you set up an account with MNsure — the one-stop health insurance marketplace where Minnesotans can compare plans and choose from a variety of health insurance options. Registration is requested for this event on Dec. 6 at the Wentworth Library. 199 Wentworth Ave. E. Walk-ins will be taken as time and space allows. Hour of Code

Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science designed to demystify “code,” to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a nationwide initiative by Computer Science Education Week and Code.org to celebrate computer science. Registration is required. This is open to kids ages 10 to 16. It will run from 6 to 7 p.m., Dec. 7, at the South St. Paul Library, 106 Third Ave. N. Call 651-554-3240 for more information.
