HH-2017: ‘A Klingon Christmas Carol’

This holiday season, the Historic Mounds Theater in St. Paul, located at 1029 Hudson Road, is presenting the 10th anniversary production of “A Klingon Christmas Carol,” a retelling of the classic Charles Dickens tale from the original Klingon text, tlhIngan ram nI’ bom or the “Klingon Long Night’s Song.” The play runs Dec. 1 through 23 at the Historic Mounds Theater. Tickets are on sale now at www.moundstheater.org.

Originally created as a fundraiser for the Commedia Beauregard theatre company, Klingon Christmas Carol was written in 2007 by Christopher Kidder-Mostrom and Sasha Warren and was originally translated by Laura Thurston, Bill Hedrick and Christopher Kidder-Mostrom. Since 2007, the show has expanded to productions in Chicago, Cincinnati, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles. This year’s production at the Mounds Theater is directed by Aaron Coker and is the first to feature a female SQuja’ (Scrooge), played by Lana Rosario, and the first to present a same-sex relationship involving the title character. The show is presented entirely in the Klingon language with English supertitles.
