Simley High School student Abby Guggisberg will be featured in Circus Juventas’ Nordsaga, July 28-Aug. 31 under the Big Top in St. Paul.

Guggisberg’s early elementary school education went beyond the basics. Besides learning to read and write, she also trained in the circus arts at St. Paul-based Circus Juventas, the largest youth performing circus in North America. A decade later, the Simley high school senior is set to soar as an aerialist in Circus Juventas’ summer spectacle Nordsaga a swirling, high-flying adventure through the Nine Realms of Norse legend, July 28 through August 13, 2017, under the Big Top at 1270 Montreal Avenue, St. Paul. The story is told through the cirque nouveau style combining artistic storytelling with wonderous physical feats in the tradition of Cirque du Soleil.  The show features Circus Juventas’ most advanced circus performers in a professionally staged large-scale theatrical production.

Guggisberg’s particular talent involves silks, where she performs aerial acrobatics using a vertically suspended fabric to wrap, suspend, swing and spiral into striking positions above the ground. The routines are both physically and mentally demanding, and requires that she continuously adjust her tricks as she performs them. She said the coaches and other students make all the hard work worthwhile. “It’s pretty difficult to replicate the atmosphere that is Circus Juventas,” she said.
