Four trucks crash on I-694; gas leak in Arden Hills

Four semitrailers crashed on Interstate 694 Dec. 8, with the most serious incident occurring in Arden Hills.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, there were no reported injuries as a result of any of the separate collisions.

The agency reported that the crashes may have been caused by slippery roads, as a thin coating of snow covered the freeways that morning.

Headed westbound on I-694, a semitrailer rolled onto its side around 3:10 a.m. near the intersection of Interstate 35W and I-694 in Arden Hills causing a puncture to the truck’s fuel tank, which then began leaking diesel fuel.

Though cars on the roadway were reportedly able to slow down in time to avoid subsequent collisions, the highway’s two righthand westbound lanes were closed for several hours in that area.

The other collisions took place along I-694 segments in Brooklyn Center, Oakdale and Vadnais Heights.

In Brooklyn Center, a car and a semitrailer collided after 7 a.m. heading westbound on the interstate. In Oakdale, just after 8 a.m., a big rig was involved in a crash on southbound I-694, near Minnesota 5. In Vadnais Heights, about 40 minutes later, a fourth semitrailer was involved in a crash on the interstate near Edgerton Street.
