North/Tartan adapted soccer advances to state

The North/Tartan CI division adapted soccer team made its first-ever trip to the state tournament this season. The tournament was held Nov. 18 and 19 at Stillwater Area High School.

North/Tartan was the No. 2 southeast seed and faced northeast No. 1 seed North Suburban in the first round. The Cougars scored an 8-2 victory.

Junior center Zachary Stacken scored both of the Polars’ goals in the loss.

North Suburban went on to defeat Anoka-Hennepin in the semifinals and lose to Park Center in the championship match.

Following its opening-round loss, North/Tartan faced Minneapolis Roosevelt in the consolation semifinals. Roosevelt, which lost 10-6 in the quarterfinals to Anoka-Hennepin, ousted the Polars from the tournament with an 11-0 victory. Roosevelt went on to lose to Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville in the consolation final.

Against Roosevelt, the Polars’ Isaiah Lynch made 12 saves and Stacken led the team in shots with five.

North/Tartan qualified for state by beating St. Paul Johnson in the southeast sub-division playoffs on Nov. 1. The Polars were seeded second in the sub-division and beat the third-seeded Governors 5-0.

North/Tartan finished the season with a record of 9-4.
