North boys soccer keeps pace with Cadets

A pair of blowout victories last week helped the North High School boys soccer team retain its share of first place in the Metro East Conference standings. The Polars are tied with St. Thomas Academy and appear headed for a season-finale showdown with the Cadets for the league title.

North won both of its games last week by comfortable margins to improve to 4-0 in the MEC and 7-2 overall.

The Polars began the week with a trip to Mahtomedi on Sept. 20 and came away with a 5-1 victory. They followed that up with a 6-1, home win over Simley on Sept. 22.

North has three more MEC matches before meeting St. Thomas Academy and two of them are this week. The Polars visited Henry Sibley in a makeup game on Sept. 26 and returned home to host South St. Paul on Sept. 27.

North’s only losses thus far have come against ranked non-conference opponents. The Polars opened the season with a 2-1 loss to Park Center and dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to top-ranked Stillwater on Sept. 17.
