Polars return home in week three

The North High School football team is back home this week after starting the season against perennial powers. The Polars welcome Tartan to Polar Field on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m.

North’s first two games were against teams that made the state tournament in 2015. The Polars lost 42-6 to South St. Paul, which reached the Prep Bowl in Class AAAA last year. Week two saw North visit St. Thomas Academy, which advanced to the Prep Bowl in Class AAAAA after beating North in the state quarterfinals.

Results of the St. Thomas Academy game were not available for this edition of the Review.

Things did not go well for North in the season opener against South St. Paul. The Packers jumped out to a four-touchdown lead in the second quarter and cruised from there.

North’s lone score came in the final minute of the first half when quarterback Josh Steckler hit Ken Kamoga for a 21-yard touchdown. That score made it a 28-6 game at halftime.

South St. Paul added single touchdowns in both of the second-half quarters.

South St. Paul followed up the victory by hosting Park-Cottage Grove in week two. This week, the Packers visit Simley.
