Rosetown in the home stretch

The Rosetown American Legion baseball team returned from a weekend in New Ulm and ended up playing only one of its scheduled Fourth District games last week. The Rockets downed North St. Paul Cavalry a day after having their game against White Bear rained out.

Rosetown also participated in the Gopher Classic over the weekend but results of that event were not available for this edition of the Review.

Rosetown closes out the regular season this week with three games. Two of them are on July 13 as the Rockets host Tri-City Maroon in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. The first game is a rainout make-up from June 14 and the second game is a regularly-scheduled contest.

Rosetown also has a rainout from July 5 to make up against White Bear. The date of that make-up game hadn’t been announced by the time this edition of the Review went to press.

Following the end of the regular season, Rosetown heads to the post-season. The Rockets will once again participate in the Sub-State 7 tournament, tentatively scheduled to begin on July 19.

In New Ulm, Rosetown played in the Midwest Classic and had a tough time recording victories although all four of its games were competitive.

Rosetown opened the tournament on July 1 against Sleepy Eye and dropped a 5-4, nine-inning decision. The Rockets followed that with a 6-2 loss to Brandon Valley, South Dakota. On July 2, Rosetown lost 11-5 to Eastview to finish fourth in its pool.

To close out the weekend, Rosetown faced Fourth District rival North St. Paul in a friendly. The 39ers pulled out the 6-5 win to finish their weekend 2-2.

Eastview ended up as the pool winner and Brandon Valley was the runner-up. Both teams advanced to the playoff portion of the tournament and Eastview lost in the first round to Chaska.

Brandon Valley beat Renner, South Dakota, in the quarterfinals and Waconia in the semifinals before losing the championship game to Creighton, Nebraska.
