Raiders take third in section softball

For a team that finished five games below .500 in the regular season, the Roseville Area High School fastpitch softball team did well in the playoffs. The Raiders, seeded seventh in Section 4AAAA, finished third.

Roseville went 2-2 in the section tournament and advanced all the way to the losers bracket final. The Raiders’ two losses in the post-season came at the hands of the top two seeds in the section.

The Raiders opened the playoffs by upsetting second-seeded North St. Paul 2-0 and followed that up with a 2-1 win over sixth-seeded Hill-Murray.

In the third round, Roseville went up against top-seeded Woodbury, which previously beat the Raiders 8-0 and 8-1 on the final day of the regular season. The Royals made it three wins over Roseville by blanking the Raiders 3-0.

The loss dropped Roseville into the losers bracket, where it went up against North St. Paul again. This time the Polars were ready and rallied from an early deficit to win 6-4.

North St. Paul went on to lose 1-0 to Woodbury in the section final.

Roseville finished the season with a record of 9-14.
