The Lake Johanna Fire Department responded to a house fire on Pinewood Drive in Shoreview Friday, March 11.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Eric Nordeen, the first units arrived in fewer than three minutes after the call and found “heavy fire conditions” on the back of the house and back deck.

Firefighters quickly contained the fire but the house was significantly damaged, Nordeen said. Neighbors alerted the occupants of the house about the fire and they escaped unharmed, Nordeen said, though the homeowner’s cat died from smoke inhalation.

Two Lake Johanna Firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation, Nordeen said, and two others were treated for minor injuries.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined and the incident is being investigated. Nordeen said firefighters from the Roseville Fire Department, New Brighton Fire Department, Lexington Fire Department and the Vadnais Heights Fire Department helped douse the blaze.
