Homes burgled in Arden Hills, New Brighton

Bulletin Area police reports week of Feb. 25, 2015, for Arden Hills, Mounds View, New Brighton, North Oaks, St. Anthony, Shoreview and Vadnais Heights

Arden Hills

Two sets of fresh footprints leading to and from the kicked-in door off the deck was about all that remained after burglars left the scene of the crime in the 3300 block of Katie Lane the afternoon of Feb. 17. Missing was an Apple iPad, an iPhone 5, a Kindle reader, an HP desktop computer and other items. The homeowner is putting together a list.

Mounds View

A senior citizen was arrested Feb. 4 for assaulting a 42-year-old man the night of Feb. 4 at a gas station in the 2700 block of County Hw.10. The 69-year-old suspect was booked at the jail for fifth-degree assault and disorderly conduct. The reason for the altercation is unknown.

A wallet, and the pair of jeans it was in, was stolen Feb. 9 from an unlocked cabinet at a health club in the 2500 block of County Hwy. 10.

Copper tubing valued at $2,820 went missing from a construction site in the 2300 block of County Hwy. 10 after thieves cut the lock on a trailer during the weekend of Feb. 6.

Two local men, ages 45 and 50, were the recent victims of fraud by identity thieves who filed taxes using the victims' Social Security numbers. When the taxpayers submitted their returns, they were informed that their paperwork had already been filed. The cases were turned over to the IRS.

They'll steal anything dept.
Even from the disabled. A Nova knee walker, a mobility device for someone with limb injuries or other ambulatory needs, was stolen Feb. 4 from the entrance to a building in the 7700 block of Silver Lake Road. The walker was valued at $190.

Trouble finds him
A local man, age 40, already wanted on five misdemeanor warrants for his arrest for domestic assault, trespassing and disorderly conduct, was evicted Feb. 6 from a Program Avenue hotel for smoking in his room. The 40-year-old was booked at the jail on the warrants.

New Brighton

Love drunk?
The officer thought he knew why the driver was weaving down Long Lake Road on Valentine's Day morning, and it wasn't from being shot by Cupid's arrow. When the suspect handed the officer his library card, he pretty much knew for sure. The 29-year-old Mounds View man, who tested a big .24 percent BAC on the Data Master system, was booked at the jail on a charge of second-degree DWI. With his history of one prior DWI conviction in 2008, the man's vehicle was impounded for forfeiture.

Burglars shattered a sliding glass door during daylight hours Feb. 18 in the 600 block of Driftwood Road. The prowlers ransacked the home, making off with a Mac Book Pro, an iMac desktop computer, an HP Netbook, a Canon 5D MK3 camera, a pair of lenses and a Sentry safe containing personal papers. They even smashed a piggy bank, grabbing the small change. The loss was estimated at $6,000 and pawnshops were alerted.

St. Anthony

Four tires and rims were stolen from a 46-year-old woman's garage Feb. 5 in the 2800 block of Silver Lane. The loss was estimated at $3,000. No forced entry was found.

A thief risked establishing a criminal record, assuming he or she doesn't already have one, by stealing a 12-pack of soda and a shovel from a garage Feb. 5 in the 2800 block of Silver Lane.

Writer's cramp?
Following a citation for running a red light Feb. 5 at 37th Avenue and Highcrest Road, the officer kept writing. The 24-year-old female was also charged with driving after license revocation, displaying plates issued to another vehicle, no proof of insurance and expired registration.

Felony terroristic threat
Police received a death threat against an officer by phone, Feb 2. The suspect was identified, the officer was informed and the case was referred to the County Attorney's office for charging.


A woman from Mexico, in Shoreview for training, parked her rental Suburban at her hotel in the 1000 block of Gramsie Road Feb. 15. When she came out early the next morning, the big SUV was on blocks and all four tires and chrome wheels were gone.

Vadnais Heights

Deputies were quick to respond just before midnight Feb. 7 when the woman called and said her husband "was drunk, had his guns in the room and threatened to assault her." The 34-year-old man, whose rifle and shotgun were unloaded and cased, was booked at the jail on charges of domestic assault, fifth-degree assault and disorderly conduct.
